How to Plan a Spanish Property Viewing Trip

What to consider before going property hunting

With the cold weather all over Europe it’s always the perfect time to book a holiday to the winter sun on The Canary Islands. Also, for interested property buyers it is the perfect time to combine the holiday with property viewings. If you are one of those people planning to view properties abroad it is important to plan ahead to make the most of your stay. Here are some helpful tips before you go:

RESEARCH THE AREA BEFOREHAND

If this is your first trip to the area or if you haven’t been many times already it is wise to do some research. Find out how the local property market is doing, what areas are most popular amongst property buyers and why. A good idea would be to book acommodation within your preferred viewing area. This way you may get a taste of what it is like to live there during your short stay and if you would enjoy living there for a longer period.

PLAN MULTIPLE PROPERTY VIEWINGS TO GET A GOOD FEEL FOR WHAT YOU WANT

You will want to plan as many viewing trips as possible before you visit the area. A viewing trip involves a real estate agent taking you to see the apartment or house that you are interested in. Let us know when you’re traveling out so that we can help you compile a list of properties to view. If you have many options lined up but are only going over for a few days, try and narrow down your property choices to make the most of your trip. Going to see a property you know you cannot afford is just a waste of a holiday. Make sure the properties you have been offered online match your budget and personal wishes before viewing.

DON’T BE FOOLED

Viewing trips organised by companies who want to sell you properties often involve more sales pressure. If you know you are prone to succumb to hard sales techniques you might be better of planning the viewing trip yourself. However, do listen to the advice given by local real estate agents as they know the areas and local amenities very well and can tell you where you may or may not find the type of property you want.  As middle men we are on the buyer’s side and can give you independent buying advice as well as find the right properties and agent for you to view with.

Finally, make sure to take a day or two to relax and think about your options while exploring the area so that you can make an informed decision on your own. If you need a mortgage, make sure to read our informative blog post on Spanish mortgages.
